Podiatry Services

Podiatry Services are provided for people who have difficulties with their foot or feet and walking.

The Podiatry Service aims to enable people to keep their feet healthy, so they can keep walking, remain mobile and maintain their independence.

What areas are covered by Podiatry Services?

Podiatry services are delivered in a variety of settings in Primary, Secondary and Community Care. There is a Service Level Agreement in place and hosts the delivery of Podiatry services for NHS Knowsley, Halton and St Helens PCT (St Helens Borough), St Helens Hospital Trust and Whiston Hospital. In addition there is in place Podiatry support for multidisciplinary Teams, for example the Musculoskeletal Clinical Assessment Service (MCAS).

What Services are Included within Podiatry Services?

  • Nail surgery for ingrown toenails
  • Wound Care/Ulcer Management
  • Toenail Care and Callus Debridement
  • Neurological and Vascular Assessment of Lower Limb
  • Annual Foot Screening for People with Diabetes
  • Health Education and Footwear Advice
  • Gait Analysis/ Biomechanical Assessment and Orthotic Manufacture

Who can use Podiatry Services?

People who fit the following criteria can self-refer into the service. A referral form is available on this page, the Community Clinics have referral forms, or you can contact the Podiatry Office on 0151 290 200.

  • People with Diabetes
  • People with a disability or health problem which render them unable to care for their own feet
  • People with ingrown toe nails
  • Expectant Mothers
  • People over 65 or under 18

Roles and services within Knowsley are constantly under review. When necessary they are redesigned using proven evidence to ensure they remain responsive to the needs of local people and continue to offer best value for public money
